Dated 07 May, 1940, this cover was sent to the Ottawa Censor Office where an "EXAMINED BY CENSOR 52" hand stamp was applied. Mail Service from Canada to Belgium was suspended due to the invasion of Belgium in May, 1940.A hand stamp "MAIL SERVICE SUSPENDED" was applied at the Ottawa Post Office and the cover was sent to the Dead Letter Office which returned it to the sender.

The Canada to Belgium mail suspension was lifted very late in 1944 when the last Belgian Territory had been liberated.
