Suspended Mail

Dated 26 October, 1942, travelling by Air Mail, this cover was intercepted in Bermuda by the British Censor Station. There it was examined by Examiner #20 13 who applied a PC 90 closer label and detained, it at the request of the USA. It was returned to New York on 11 January, 1943.

This cover was also a casualty of Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa on 08 November, 1942. The next day, Germany occupied Vichy France. The USA suspended mail to Vichy France on 04 December, 1942.
