Dated 28 November, 1941, travelling by Air Mail, this cover was intercepted in Bermuda by the British Censor Office. It was examined by Examiner #1038 who applied a PC 90 closer label and detained it. It was returned as per machine cancel "RETURN/TO SENDER/SERVICE SUSPENDED/NEW YORK, N.Y/JUL 24/1942".

This cover was detained in Bermuda due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and the declaration of war on the USA by Germany and Italy on 11 December, 1941. Mail suspensions were immediately imposed by the U.S. on all of these countries, their allies and occupied territories.
